Greetings!
In November, we decided to change the destination of this trip due to CPS regulations of having students engage in water activities. Costa Rica, being a beautiful country surrounded by water, attracts many tourists to kayak, visit hot springs, and enjoy the sun on sandy beaches. Since our students would not be able to participate in any of these activities, we decided to look into alternative destinations. The group voted on the following:
1st choice: Paris & Barcelona - 8 days
2nd choice: Paris - In Depth - 7 days
3rd choice: Royal Madrid - 8 days
All three trips cost approximately $2000 per student, not including the all-inclusive $125 medical/property/luggage insurance.
Parents are welcome to join us! However, the cost is slightly more expensive.
Fundraising is going strong. We have currently raised $2000 towards our cause. I am excited for the upcoming May 1st talent show.
We currently have 7 students enrolled on the Spring Break Paris & Barcelona trip! There are 5 more spots! Enroll now!

ENROLLMENT: As of now, Lopez & Meisels are the only ones going on this trip. As enthusiastic as you are about fundraising, remember that you are not officially on the EF Tour roster until you enroll.
VALENTINE'S DAY FUNDRAISER: ROSE SALE
(A) PRE-SALE: JAN 26 - FEB 9
(B) I have placed an order with Kennicott Flowers for 100 pink roses, 100 white roses, and enough flower seram sleeves and ribbon to wrap our orders with. Each rose will cost us $0.80, and the entire order is costing us approximately $180.00. In casual conversations, the tentative selling prices are the following:
(A) Theme? Come to the Wednesday meeting with IDEAS
(B) Decorations: Centeno, Acevedo, Lopez, Pantoja: Check out www.orientaltrading.com - I will be placing a decorations order with Ms. Kohl this upcoming week. Come with ideas written out. Be sure to include how MANY you want to order of each. Budget for decorations: $300
(C) Music: Lima - where are you on this?
(D) Food: Meisels - where are you on this? I've asked Ms. Leuschel to help me with this, so please check in with her BEFORE WEDNESDAY
(E) Posters: I will need a handful of helpers to help me make letter-size posters. Garcia, you mentioned that Thorpe would help us make a banner? Is this a banner to help advertise, or banner to help decorate the gym?
(F) Ticketing: Rose Sale Tickets? Dance Tickets? Ideas? We once mentioned cutting out half-heart shapes as tickets. Do we want to give party favors (like the mask at the homecoming dance)? We will need to charge $5 to cover all the fees for this dance.
(G) Dance venue: I am asking PO Reed and Commander Tooker to help us secure the Senn gymnasium. Tentatively, it will be from 6-10pm on Feb 11, but we are not sure if it is available.
I will be keeping a blog for our group. Go to www.rickovernaval.org, scroll down, and click on "Costa Rica Blog." Stay tuned, everyone!
MANDATORY MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY!
See you soon,
Ms. Chen

(C) Please start telling all your FRIENDS and TEACHERS about this sale. I just saw Chief Thompson on some flowers.com website, ordering roses for his wife (?). Most websites will sell roses for about $50 per dozen, so we are cutting them a GREAT deal. We are not buying our roses from Costco, but rather a FLOWER SHOP from the Chicago area. In other words, married folks are already thinking of what they are going to buy. INTERCEPT! We need to aim our enthusiasm on our teachers - here is a list of who you should start mildly harassing:2 roses = $3
3 roses = $5
6 roses = $8
12 roses = $15

Salutations!
The official deadline for enrollment is January 31, 2009.
In the next few weeks, I will be very firm about enrollment and collecting the $95 deposit. If finances are an issue and you are sure that things will clear up in the next couple of months, we can discuss this, but if you have the means, please enroll immediately. Currently, Lopez and Meisels are going to Costa Rica.
Here is how: You need the Tour ID (653243) to enroll
(1) Online - long into Tour Participant site using the tour number and submit an application to www.eftours.com/students (you will need a credit card or bank account number)
(2) Mail the paper copy (back page of the brochure I gave you) to:
EF Educational Tours
EF Center Boston
One Education Street
Cambridge, MA 02141-1883
(3) Phone: 1-800-665-5364
(4) Fax: Fax your application to 1-800-318-3732
Important Reminders:
1. The $95 deposit is due WITH your enrollment application. This deposit is NOT refundable. If you decide to not travel with us, this amount will not be refunded back to you.
2. If you decide to use standard payment system ($95 deposit, $150 30 days after, $400 due 3 months later..etc) you MAY switch to the autopay (monthly payments). You may switch to the autopay payment system ANYTIME up to 5 months before we travel.
3. The autopay payment system is calculated by WHEN you enroll. The later you enroll, the greater the amount you must pay per month. However, it is automatically charged to a debit card/credit card, so it is considered "worry-free."
Rest well, and I will see you soon!
